I missed Hailsham Theatres festival play last year, Alan Ayckbourn's Just Between Ourselves, but did get to see Twitter photos of the fantastic set and heard some great reviews. This year, the Company has again chosen an Ayckbourn script and will be performing Roleplay.
One of the Damsels In Distress trilogy, Roleplay was first performed at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough in 2001 and London's Duchess Theatre in 2002. The Hailsham Theatres performance will be directed by Sam Elsby and Richard Davis has been kind enough to name-drop the cast for me!
In an apartment in London's Docklands, engaged couple Justin (Jack Page) and Julie-Ann (Christine Holford) are about to introduce their respective parents to each
other over dinner – Justin’s upper-crust alcoholic mother from Surrey, Arabella (Diane Morris), and
Julie-Ann’s bigoted Yorkshire father, Derek (Clive Hale) and prim mother, Dee (Ann Walker). Into this doomed
scenario ‘drops’ Paige Petite (Zoe Holmes), a former lap-dancer, and her thick, gun-toting
minder Micky (Phil Hilder) who is employed by her violent boyfriend.
